Scene opens on Andrew and his mother in the kitchen. She is unpacking boxes of traditional Chinese decorations including lanterns.
(Speaking in an upbeat manner expecting compliance) Andrew, can you help me put up the decorations for the new year celebrations?
(In a scoffing manner) Why would I want to put up those decorations? They look stupid.
(clearly shocked and upset, speaks in a sad tone) .. Andrew, these decorations..they are part of our heritage...They are extremely important to our family.
(shakes his head with a sarcastic grin, then speaks in a typically defiant teenage manner.) Mom, these decorations are awfull They are embarrassing, why can't we just celebrate normal American holidays like everyone else? There's no point in these useless Asian traditions. No one else celebrates like this so why should we?
